Artist’s Statement
Richard Lasner is a fine art photographer
specializing in richly toned, lushly colored images of Italy. He creates beautiful,
zen-like images that draw the viewer into his exploration of landscapes, architecture and nature. Lasner has photographed in Italy annually since 1996. His
nearly 90 large scale limited edition prints capture special views of cities, countrysides and coastlines from north to south.
Lasner’s objective
is for viewers to feel such a strong connection with the image that they want to be in that place at that time of day to see
what he is seeing. The printing process utilizes long-lasting water based inks
and dyes which absorb into a fine art heavily textured paper. This absorption
results in a soft, often three dimensional quality that is unlike traditional glossy printing.
The Washington Post has described his work as “profound” and “evocative”, while other
reviews have characterized it as “glowing”, “luminous” and “extraordinary.” One critic described him as a photographer who wants to create paintings through his lens.

Richard
Lasner Richard's clear understanding of the composition of his images, his focus on the subject
and the sense of moment pull one to sympathize with his eye.
This is the gift of fine art photography. It is always more exhilarating
to encounter a collection of images by region or subject when the lens is directed by a disciplined knowledge of photography.
Although Richard has a wonderful collection of Italian images I personally hope he shares his Baseball series with Florence.

The perfect form of the batsman is like classical sculpture posed but true
to form. The Cuban and American Teams standing together is a very unifying image of possible hopes for many people living
in South Florida , although this is from 1999, this image of sport before politics will always triumph, reminding us
that friendship and respect are worthy subjects to celebrate.
