2003 Biennale Recognitions
A homage to the Restoration Laboratories of the Vatican Museums
The highest possible recognition of the Biennale, consisting in the presentation of the prestigious award "Lorenzo
il Magnifico" and that ratifies the authoritarian and precious commitment diffused in the field of art, time and space has
been awarded this year to the Restoration Laboratories of the Vatican Museums for their unique and constant recovery work
to one of the most important heritages of mankind.
A homage to Ferrari
The fourth edition of the Biennale pays homage to Ferrari, a symbol of Italian creativeness and talent throughout
the world, with recognition of the "Lorenzo il Magnifico" award. Among paintings, sculptures and installations of the 2003
edition, some works of art from the past and present were also presented of the historical car manufacturer from Maranello,
such as the 125 S, the first Ferrari car (1947): the 250 LM, the first vehicle with rear engine that marked an era (1963):
the famous super-car F40 (1987); the Enzo Ferrari , the last super-car, produced in just 399 models (2002).
An award
to David Hockney
David Hockney, one of the most famous contemporary artists took part in the fourth edition of the Biennale, where
he was given the "Lorenzo il Magnifico" award for his career, with a conference during the exhibition on the "optical instruments
of renaissance artists", a topic that has been studied in detail for many years by the artist, fascinated by the techniques
used to create the most important works of art of ancient maestros.
A homage to Alfredo Zalce (1908 - 2003)
The
Biennale has given homage to the last of the Mexican Muralist, dedicating a special space and the career award "Lorenzo il
Magnifico".
