Primary Lyric"

Laura Eklaund
The abstraction process of creativity requires title, some times a key word. Laura places the key in front to open the process. Poetry comes to mind but paint must combine the story or the question are now curious or content.
A personal understanding reached by a common question, abstraction of color formed by an inner song or line of poetic enlightenment. The direction that Laura takes is therefore constructive or growing from rather than the expected reflection of an internal Dialogue.

                          The Hanging Man

By the roots of my hair some god got hold of me.

I sizzled in his blue volts like a desert prophet.

The nights snapped out of sight like a lizard’s eyelid:

A world of bald white days in a shadeless socket.

A vulturous boredom pinned me in this tree.

If he were I, he would do what I did.

 Sylvia Plath, Ariel

BIOGRAPHY

Artist Statement
“You might think of these paintings as maps or blueprints that are conceived in an interior world where the soul manifests itself into a concrete world. With my abstract and non-objective work I sometimes start with dissimilar cells of color and forms that act as a springboard to construct and ascertain different compositions that become harmonies and sometimes discords. Sometimes the paintings visualize and make themselves known completely in my head, before I ever begin painting, and other times the paintings start with ideas and forms from nature that can originate from an organic form such as a tree, rock, or fallen leaf. I hope to extend the aesthetic and conversation of the abstract expressionists. With my figurative work I hope to create a mystery and ambiguity that is strange and beautiful; a representation of the mysteries and indistinctness of life that has always inspired and amazed me.
